Accessibility Advisory Committee (2010 - 2014)

The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 requires municipalities with a population of 10,000 or more to establish an Accessibility Advisory Committee to consult on the creation and maintenance of an annual Municipal Accessibility Plan.
The Council of the Corporation of the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury shall confirm that the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) shall consist of five (5) members; two (2) members of which shall be Council representatives and three (3) members which shall be persons with disabilities, as required by the Act.
Committee appointments shall be by Council resolution and confirmed by By-Law. The Accessibility Advisory Committee term of shall be concurrent with the term of Council.
The Accessibility Advisory Committee will report to Council by providing a written set of minutes of all their meetings with frequent updates being provided by the Chairperson on their progress.
Improving accessibility is a shared responsibility. The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 requires that the provincial and municipal governments and key broader public sector organizations review their policies, programs and services through the development of annual Municipal Accessibility Plans.
The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury will play a crucial role in the planning and development of our communities through the development of streets, parks, transit, libraries, social housing, ambulance services, public buildings and elections.
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 requires more than half of the Members of the Accessibility Advisory Committee must be people with disabilities. The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 mandates that the provincial government, the broader public sector (municipal governments, school boards, hospitals, colleges and universities, and public transportation providers) to develop annual accessibility plans and make them public.
The primary role of the Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee is to provide advise to Council each year regarding the preparation, implementation and effectiveness of the Municipal Accessibility Plan.
Municipal Accessibility Plans are intended to address the existing barriers to people with disabilities and to prevent new barriers from being established.
