Clean Yards

Clean Yards By-law 2008-070 was passed by Council on the 17th day of June, 2008 to provide for the maintenance of lands in a clean and clear condition throughout the entire municipality (urban, rural, commercial & industrial).
The by-law regulates:
- Property maintenance issues relating to lands being clear of storage of garbage, refuse and/or debris, etc.
- Cutting of grass, vegetation and noxious weeds
- Ensuring there are no accident hazards on properties caused by holes or excavations
- Ensuring all pools and wells are in good repair and/or working order
- Regulating the location, placement, size and maintenance of composted materials
- Prohibiting the storage of derelict motor vehicles, or motor vehicles that are unfit to be operated on a highway, on properties not zoned for that use
If you have concerns with respect to the maintenance of lands for a property in your area, please contact the Enforcement office with the particulars of the alleged offence:
- List of maintenance issues you feel do not comply with the by-law
- Address of the offending property
- Your name, address and telephone number to contact regarding concerns
Enforcement
Upon receipt of a complaint, an enforcement officer will attend on site to conduct an inspection to verify if there is non-compliance with Clean Yards By-law
2008-070.
Where there has been a violation, an officer may serve written notice upon the owner, directing the violation be remedied within a specific period of time.
In the event the violition in the notice is not remedied within the set period of time, the officer may cause the violation to be remedied at the expense of the owner.
Fines:
In addition, to issuance of a Notice to Remedy, an enforcement officer may issue a Certificate of Office, with a set fine in the amount of $300.00.
