Christ Church Anglican Cemetery Photos & History
Back to Pioneer/Historic Cemeteries
This cemetery was the site of the first Anglican Church in West Gwillimbury. The Stoddars (now ‘Stoddart’) family was the first to arrive in the area, with John Stoddars arriving in 1817 to look after the land. The first Church was succeeded by a brick one in 1856, and it was the centre of the religious and social life of Middletown in the 1850s and 1860s. The Church was demolished in the 1940s although the cemetery still stands today.
